At halftime of the November 24, 2012 UNC football game, the UNC Bands and the Department of Athletics recognized the Sawyer family for 17 consecutive years of membership in the Marching Tar Heels (watch video). Connie Sawyer, II, his wife Bonnie Sawyer and their family joined Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham and band directors Jeff Fuchs and Matt McClure on the field for the presentation. Seven of the Sawyer’s nine children have participated in the UNC marching band and Saturday was the last performance for their youngest child. Recognized for their involvement in the Marching Tar Heels were Connie, III (96-00), Josh (98-02), Quinton (00-04), Crystal (03-07), Kellie (04-08), Anthony (06-10) and Raymond (09-13) . Quinton, who is the trainer for the Michigan State basketball team was unable to attend due to work obligations. Congratulations to the Sawyer family for 17 amazing years of service to the University of North Carolina.
